Come back often to read about the experiences, ideas, musings, reflections, and maybe even some of the dreams of BBFI Mission Director Jon Konnerup and Associate Directors Loran McAlister, Paul Hylton, Steve Bender, and Dennis Jennings. Come back often and leave a comment (which may or may not show up on the blog).

My family and I just returned from a fascinating trip through parts of Asia. We first arrived in Thailand for two nights and stayed in the city of Bangkok. We visited with Rick and Tammy Salmon and their boys and I preached for Ricky on Sunday morning. It truly is amazing all the are involved in with their church, with many different types of outreach, and with other churches in the country-side. We were blessed to be with them.

Then we went to another country to visit those serving there. I can’t mention the names of servants and cities for security reasons. However, it was such a thrill to sit in on some leadership training and discipleship, a house church and see a meeting place of another underground church. In this country there are creative platforms being used with the ultimate goal of evangelism, leadership training and church planting. The cool thing is, it is working. We got...

I have always looked forward to and enjoyed the Missionary Family Reunion.  While missionaries in Korea and now in the office this week has always been special to my family.  I hope if you will be in the US during August that you will plan now to attend.  This year's Reunion will held August 4 -8.  You may sign up online from the link on our home page.  I hope to see you there.  Steve

I enjoyed the recent Fellowship Week with several events being the highlights.  The Monday afternoon committees and Tuesday morning service for approvals were a real blessing.  The testimonies were great and I believe we will see God use these called and gifted couples and singles reach many people with the Gospel around the world.  25 were approved as career missionaries, six recognized as TEAM missionaries, and two reinstated back to Australia – Ron & Vicki Letts.

Another highlight was Tuesday night with Jim Hutchinson (Russia) singing a special song and Jim Smith (Ecuador) preaching a very challenging message.  It was nice to see the entire day of Tuesday emphasizing missions.  Of course, it was great to see all the missionaries present and to have lunch with those who could come on Thursday.  By the way, the Tuesday approval service is on our website to watch and is also available on DVD for $3.00.  If you want one contact Mike at MDuff@bbfimissions.com.

Things are quite busy at the Mission Office of the BBFI. We are preparing for our new missionary approvals in May. Our reporting project is under way after working on it for over one year. All the staff is doing an admiral job in their respective areas to continue our goal of being a world mission service center.   Last week I was speaking at a Mission Conference in Ft. Worth, TX and during that conference I participated in the ordination service of a new Fellowship missionary to be approved this May.   Paul Hylton recently spoke at a Mission Conference. Steve Bender is in Europe and spending time with missionaries while there. Loran McAlister is teaching all week the “History of Missions” at Pacific Baptist College in California. Dennis Jennings just finished preaching a Mission Conference in Florida.   We stay quite busy not only with our duties in the Mission Office but also promoting missions in our churches. At this time we are pressing with our Operation Stabilization initiative to raise the awareness...

This time of year is always exciting as it begins the spring mission conference season.  It was my privilege to be invited to attend two conferences this month.

The first was spent with pastor John Waldrip and the members of Calvary Road Baptist Church in Monrovia California.  The conference began on Wednesday evening with a great mid week crowd and appeard to grow with new faces each night.  Pastor Waldrip reported one man coming to Christ and several others making spiritual decisions.  The conference ended on Suday night with a first class Victory Banquet at a fine local resturant.  Thank you Bro. John for being such a great host and inviting me to spend this time among your people. I shall not soon forget this conference.

The second conference I had the privilige of being invited to attend was in Yuma Arizona with the Bible Baptist Church pastored by Alfred Maese.  Pastor Maese began with an orientaton dinner on Saturday evening to allow the missionaries to meet each other and to lay out the schedule...

On Monday, January 7, 2008, the Mission Office will be hosting the Missouri State Meeting for this month.  We have serveral great preachers as well as some presentations to make.  After their business meeting we will all go to the Gem of India for an international style dinner which the Mission Office will pay for.

Pray for the meeting as we will be challenging the pastors and their churches to encourage more to be missionaries as well as to stand behind our current missionaries through prayer and communication.  The financial situations around the world will be explained so that our chruches will realize the difficulty many of our missionaries are in.  I anticiapte a great meeting.  We have done this the past two years with over 100 in attendance each time.

One of the neat things the Mission Office does each year for Christmas is find a young family preparing to go to the mission field who are students at BBC. We find a family who perhaps will not have much for Christmas. Instead of everyone in the office buying gifts for each other, we pitch in money to purchase gifts for each member of this family. We also bring in food items of all types in order that they might have enough for special meals during this season.

Then on a certain evening, just before Christmas, the Mission Office personnel all go to their home and carry in the gifts and food items. We introduce ourselves and tell them how much we appreciate them following the call of God upon their lives to be missionaries. A short time is spent singing several choruses and then we leave them with a word of prayer.

It is an awesome time knowing we are helping someone in need whom God plans to use one day on the mission field. We look forward to serving them one day as missionaries with the BBFI....

I’m sure many of you have been following events unfolding in Pakistan. if not, I’m sure you are at the very least aware of the recent happenings following the assassination of Mrs. Bhutto last week. This is a very dangerous time for the people of Pakistan. The events that will transpire in the next few days could be very devastating for the people of that country as well as our missionaries. I would like to ask you to be in special prayer for the safety of the two missionary couples we have in Pakistan as well as the Pakistani people. This weekend marks the 50th anniversary of the church started by Charles and Edna Coleman and where they still minister today. I have not heard how the meeting went, but trust God that all went well. The Hersons work alongside the Colemans and are confident this is exactly where God has called them to serve and that He will be their protector. In fact, Bro. Coleman’s words penned to me earlier this year were, “We firmly believe II Thess. 3:3 ”But the Lord is Faithful, who shall establish...

It is Sunday afternoon and I am watching football at home with my laptop on my lap.   As I look at my schedule for this next week and the items I need to work on and accompllish my mind goes back to the purpose of the Mission Office.  I often remind myself just exactly what I am to do by reviewing our Purpose, Mission and Vision statements.  I thought I would share them with you as well.

Purpose Statement

The Mission Office strives for professionalism and integrity through stewardship to God in all its dealings, particularly His chosen servants, the pastors and missionaries whom we passionately serve.

Mission Statement

Serving churches and their missionaries as they endeavor to fulfill the Great Commission.

Vision Statement

Through enhanced policies, fiscal responsibility, and increased communication efforts we expect to see the Mission Office and our missionary force poised for growth into the next decade and beyond.

I want to tell you about the fun activity we had with about 30 MKs just before Thanksgiving. We took them all to Incredible Pizza. They each got to play games and drive the go-carts. It was a lot of fun. If you have MKs in the area, please let us know since we try and do things for them from time to time. If you have children that are not in this area, please let us know so that we can communicate with them as well.
