A Different Kind of Birthday Party Our initial contact with Lilliam and Rene’ was when we invited their son to Jonah’s birthday party. As Lilliam strolled around during the party, she noticed some of our literature that we had available as well as our bulletin boards with activities and photos. She inquired, “Are you guys Christians?” I said yes and explained that we held a worship service every Sunday. Lilliam’s husband, Rene’, later shared that he and his wife had to get married in an Evangelical Church since his mother-in-law was Evangelical (Everyone non-Catholic gets put into this group). They stayed longer than all the other guests. We took advantage of this great opportunity to share our ministry.
They came for our Mother’s Day Celebration. Rene’ indicated on his visitor card that he’d like to know more about an intimate relationship with Jesus. I set up a time for us to get together. After sorting through his background and talking about side issues, we came to his ‘salvation’ decision. While still engaged, Rene’ was urged forward by his soon-to-be mother-in-law after an emotional appeal was offered. He and several others were asked, “Do you accept Jesus?” After saying yes, he was asked to fill out a card and then asked to sit down.
It was my privilege to show Rene’ from the Bible how he could know God and establish a relationship with Him through His Son, Jesus. Rene’ eagerly bowed his head and prayed, “Jesus, please come into my heart and life and make me Yours. Change me. Help me be a better husband and father. In Jesus name, Amen.” Pray for his Christian growth. This is the first man that we have led to the Lord. Here, men are harder to win than women. Pray for more men to come to the Lord.
