Christine is 18 and her family began attending Tena Estates Bible Baptist Church years before we came to Kenya, but it was only this past Sunday, with her mother’s encouragement, that she came to present herself for baptism. I asked her when she had trusted the Lord as her Savior. Since she had made a profession of faith as a child, I asked if she understood what she was doing back then (as much as her child-like faith would allow). I went on to tell her that sometimes children do things because they know it will please their mothers, or make their pastor happy, but salvation must be something you do with your whole heart and not because of how proud others might be of you. After a brief conversation, Christine said she had only prayed to please others, and now she wanted to make it a decision of her own. After her heart-felt prayer to be saved, and before she left, I told her this would cause her mother to question her. I asked, “What are you going to tell your mom?” Christine said, “I will tell her that years ago it was only a head decision, but today it is a heart decision.”
