What I've Been Looking For
What I've Been Looking For

Ty is a teenager that has been coming to church with one of our families for quite some time now.  He comes from a horrible home where all of them, except the great-grandmother, drink heavily and quite often.  So one can only image what Ty is surrounded by all of the time, basically drinking and fighting.  We were completely amazed a few months ago when Ty walked into church with one of his uncles and his grandmother.  Apparently he had been telling them over and over that they needed to come to church with him, and they finally gave in.  They have continued to come somewhat faithfully, even to Wednesday evening service and seem to like what they are learning.  The two that come most often are his grandmother, Shirley, and his uncle, Shawn.

Ty’s uncle, Shawn, is in his early twenties.  He is the one who has been coming to church fairly regularly.  His comment to me after church one evening was “this is what I need; this is what I have been looking for.”  I went to his house yesterday to begin discipleship and began by asking him about his salvation.  He was not sure if he had been saved but told me how one night after he had been coming to church he got on his knees and face on his bed and called out to God to help him and forgive him.  I showed him the story of the thief on the cross and how that is all that man did and how the Lord saved him right then and there.  You could see his face light up with understanding and then confidently said “Yes, I am saved then.  I’ve done that!"  He began to tell me how sick and tired he was of his life of sin and drinking with his brothers all of the time.  Tonight I go and disciple with Shawn again, he did not want to wait until next week!  Pray for Shawn as he learns, grows, and fights the battle.  Pray for me that I will help him with wisdom and guidance.
