Mountain biking to the end of the trail, we encounter Realito; a small mountain community with over 400 years of history. There is a pecan and fruit tree orchard with trees over 200 years old. The community is small, about a dozen families and only the older generation remains. The rest have gone to the big city in search of jobs and more of what this world can offer.
We are beyond the electric grid, yet every home has lights-solar powered. It is clean, orderly, fresh and lush. There is running water, a rarity in this part of Mexico. We are instantly welcomed and chairs are brought out into the street and set in the shade cast by these giant trees that have seen two centuries of these people and their care.
Recently the community buried one of its members. They told us she died having lived well over 100 years. She was the second person that year that died being over 100 years old.
We came with a simple goal - share Christ. We did. We now have brothers and sisters in Christ in Realito!
