Many years ago I made friends with Elvira and Rafael who sell Ecuadorian products at the middle of the earth (equator). Elvira was a delightful Christian lady who enjoyed talking about the Lord and His Word. Rafael, on the other hand, was, in the words of his Christian friends, a hard man.
I have talked to Rafael many times, giving him literature to study, and praying with him and his wife. Last week, while taking a group from Kentucky to the Equator, I slipped away to greet my friend. When they asked about my health, I told them that I had cancer and would be operated on the last of August. I fully expect to recover but the conversation turned to heaven and Elvira and I rejoiced in what is in store for us when we see our Savior face to face. I commented that to live is Christ and to die is gain, but what really worried me was that while Elvira and I would be rejoicing in heaven Rafael would not be there. By the grace of the Lord, he began to weep and said that he too wanted to be saved! What a precious day to see my friend accept Christ and join the 36 others that were saved that week!
