Porini Recently we held a 4-day youth camp. We took our teens out into the “porini.” This is the Swahili word for wilderness. It was HOT! We bathed ourselves with sun block lotion. We thanked the Lord for every cloud which gave us a little shade. Snakes were falling out of trees upon us. Hyenas walked the perimeter of our camp at night. The ground was laden with thorns and blistering hot sand everywhere. Because we were so far away from civilization, we had to bring everything with us. It was a lot of work. In spite of the “inconvenience” (as some would say), this was one of our greatest camps ever. Our theme was “piga hatua,” meaning stepping forward for Christ. We had a great time without youth! The preaching was outstanding. It was obvious that God was working in the hearts of our youth. Six young people accepted Christ as Savior and many more made life changing decisions. Would we do it again? Absolutely!!!
