Some Dangerous Signs: On April 25th, a female suicide bomber attacked the vehicle of the commander of Army. Several military personnel were killed and a number of people were injured. This was the most deadly attack since the cease-fire agreement was signed in February 2002.
In response to this suicide bombing, the government dropped bombs on some terrorist strongholds in the north and east. On May 11 there was a major confrontation at sea and 70 lives were lost. It looks as if the ceasefire is no more and we are on the verge of resuming the 23 year old ethnic conflict.
In the midst of all of this, there are signs that religious tensions are again increasing. In April, a Methodist Church approximately 15 miles from our church was stoned by a mob led by Buddhist monks. The monks accused the church of anti-Buddhist activities. Pray the civil authorities keep this type of behavior in check, rather than turn a blind eye.
