Ghost Month
Ghost Month

Summer is upon us here in our area of Canada.  During this time of the year, many of the Chinese immigrants living around us are observing the season of “Ghost Month.”  When they move from Taiwan, China and other parts of Southeast Asia to Vancouver, unless they give their hearts to the Lord, they carry with them many of the same superstitions and cultural practices.  These beliefs are all connected to their worship of ancestors.  If ancestors are not continually venerated and remembered, their “ghosts” can come back to haunt the loved ones still living.  Our Chinese neighbors can be observed burning paper money and incense, visiting temples and bowing before ‘god’ shelves in their homes.  We pray the Lord will continue to give us the wisdom and strength to reach out to these lost souls here in our area of Vancouver!
