August 10th we had a youth overnighter for ages 13 and up. We invited youth from all the churches that we work with. Together with the Kinoru youth, we had 49 teenagers come to spend the night. Everyone paid a small registration fee, and the youth from outside of Meru also paid their own transport. This is a major step, and it was a blessing to us to see the churches make the effort to help the youth to come. We had a presentation on HIV, and stressed the need for Christian Youth to follow the Bible and stay pure until marriage. We also had a Kenyan speaker, Brother Alan Maina, from Nairobi, who taught on making wise Biblical choices in your friendships.
After the evening service, about 8:45 pm, we began to play a game of Scalp. Half of the youth went outside with flags on their belts to hide in the dark. Then the other half, the seekers, went to try to “scalp” flags from the hiders before they made it to safety. We were about 10 minutes into the game when three police cars, and several policemen, some with guns drawn arrived at the church gate!! It seems many neighbors in the area of the church, had heard running and screaming and had kindly called the Police to come help us!!! Ron went to reassure the police that we were only playing! The police said we could continue to play, but we had to make the youth be quiet. We knew that would be impossible, so we switched to an inside game! Pray for the youth of Meru, that they will choose the Lord.
