Ghost Month
Ghost Month

GHOST MONTH: Yesterday was the last day of “ghost month” in Taiwan.  Offerings for “hungry ghosts” were placed upon tables outside homes as the “wandering spirits” prepared to make their way back to their “hell”.  Most of the Chinese people here believe that on the first day of the seventh month on the lunar calendar the ghosts are let out of hell to roam the earth.  Believers of this tradition are supposed to offer sacrifices of food, beverages, and other “useful” things during the year to their ancestors as well as others in the nether world.  So during the first day, middle day, and the last day of “ghost month”, while the ghosts are supposed to be loosed, people all over this island are outside with their sacrifice tables loaded down with things to eat and drink; as well as a wash basin with water, washcloth, and mirror to freshen up a bit.  They take it very seriously as these “hungry ghosts” may bring harm to families and/or businesses.  Would you please pray with us for boldness and wisdom to preach Jesus Christ in Taiwan?
