Interrupted Plans
Interrupted Plans

God brought home the reality of James 4:14 and 15 a few weeks ago.  Our family had returned to the states to visit some of our supporting churches.  I had worked hard to fill our schedule with many meetings.  As we left for our first trip, I quickly prayed and asked God to keep us safe on the road not realizing how much I needed this prayer that day.  As Lisa was driving, our SUV started to shake from side to side.  The next thing we knew the car was rolling onto the driver’s side and up onto the roof.  The car then hit the side of the road and continued to roll over onto the passenger side.  When we came to a stop, Lisa and Ethan were both hanging above my head in their seatbelts and car seat and I had been thrown onto the floor then on top of the passenger window.  As Lisa screamed “Give me my baby!”, I got Ethan out of his seat and she handed him to a stranger who had stopped to help us.  Eventually the paramedics came and broke out the windshield so we could climb out.

I had made my plans for that day and God had allowed them to be interrupted with this accident.  Why?  Well, we may never know exactly why, but I do know that it was God’s plan because in the midst of the accident the Holy Spirit calmed my heart and assured me that we would all live, but the car would not. Praise the Lord!  We did survive with only sprains and bruises.  Ethan actually had no wounds of any kind.  Our God is so faithful!  I learned to trust Him that day with the lives of my family and thanked God for His Spirit of comfort.
