“Ahadi” or commitment. That’s a word that seems to bring a struggle for people all over the world. However, when you see someone set his or her heart to doing something for the Lord in the face of adversity it is truly refreshing. It is like an oasis in the desert.
One person who shows great ahadi (commitment) is a man by the name of Richard. He is a student at the Baptist Bible Institute in Thika. Richard works for the Kenya Railroad and has faced a lot of adversity. Due to some changes with the railroad, all of the employees are in danger of losing their jobs. No one knows who will be going. They are all just waiting, hoping it’s not them. Richard also has a young son who was earlier this year diagnosed with cancer and has been undergoing chemo treatments to fight the disease. Because of his job, Richard has also had to move to Nairobi. However, he continues being faithful to his studies at the institute, paying about half a day’s wages in transportation to get to the institute every week. There are others with similar trials that remain faithful to God.
