Marriage Seminar Surprise

MARRIAGE SEMINAR SURPRISE: In April, Donna and I co-taught a marriage seminar for Pastors and their wives in Nairobi.  We had a great time as we talked about the need for a man and wife to follow the Biblical guidelines for marriage and to live their lives to please God.  We spent time discussing submission, love, and marriage partnership.  In the second session, we discussed romance and had a great time showing the couples how they could be romantic within their one-room homes, as well as in public.  We helped get them started by giving them greeting cards, available locally for just $.25, a chocolate bar ($.30), and candles (used many times during power outages) and gave them some other ideas as well to encourage more romance in their relationships.

In late May, Pastor James came to speak at our church in Thika.  As I welcomed him to the pulpit, I encouraged him to introduce his wife.  He began his sermon, greeted the congregation, and then told us that he would give his wife a chance to share a testimony.  He proceeded to tell us his wife’s name, Phoebe, then made this statement, “Honey, would you like to greet the church?”  I had to pick my jaw up off the ground, then I smiled—someone was listening at the seminar—we talked about having a special name to call your husband/wife.
