Years Later...

I have known Ms. Judite for over 25 years, since the time of our Bible classes in Boa Vitoria while living in Nova Holanda.  She is a sister of the man where we had the classes and was always present with her small children, but was never saved as several others of his family.  I moved away and almost lost contact with her.  Sometime last year I heard the tragic news of her husband’s death from an accidental shotgun blast in the head.  Then early this year I heard that her oldest son, now a father of five, had died unexpectedly from what appeared to be dengue fever.

When I went to Nova Holanda in June to get my horse, which had been there on vacation while I was in the US, I saw her brother, Sr. Francisco, who is now in charge of the congregation in Boa Vitria.  He told me that in April both she and her widowed daughter-in-law had been saved, and asked me to visit her in the swamp where she is presently harvesting their cane.

Last month I made the three-hour trip with another lady to Brejo do Riachinho (Little Creek Swamp).  It was not a pleasurable trip, as the deep sand and hot sun took all of the vim and vigor out of our horses long before we arrived.  However, at last we came to the little thatched house of Ms. Judite.  She was very happy to see us in that isolated place, and we had a good time of fellowship together with a Bible study, singing, and prayer.  Please pray that she will remain steadfast in the faith and that a younger son living with her will also accept Christ as he says he will do.
