Sacrificial Obedience
Sacrificial Obedience

David, a 12-year-old saved a couple of months ago, had told me of his desire to be baptized on Sunday.  However, Saturday he paid a non-refundable $3.00 in order to be able to play in a special soccer tournament Sunday afternoon, thinking the baptism would be held in place of the morning service and that he would be back home in plenty of time to participate.  (You probably already know that in Ecuador soccer is the sport.)  That Saturday evening, when talking with his Aunt Alexi, who is also our maid, he learned hat the baptism would be held after the service and that we would not be returning until later in the afternoon.  David had to decide which was more important to him—playing soccer and making use of his $3.00, or getting baptized and following Jesus.  Now, $3.00 may not seem like a great deal to you, but for many Ecuadorians and especially for a young boy, it is a considerable amount.  David decided he would forfeit his chance to play in the special soccer tournament and lose his $3.00 in order to follow Jesus’ example and be baptized.  God is going to richly bless this boy for his commitment and willingness to sacrifice his time and treasure for the Lord!
