Changed Lives; Changed Marriages
Changed Lives; Changed Marriages

The Lord doesn’t only save souls.  He also saves relationships, including marriages.  The marriage of Charles and Selina, a couple from Taiwan, is a case in point.

Selina has been a Christian for several years now; Charles a bit less than that.  Over that time, Selina had ample opportunity to observe how other Christian husbands treated their wives.  Charles’ care of his wife had steadily improved quite a bit, a fact that Selina was grateful for, but the truth was that Charles had NEVER presented her with a thoughtful gift, all wrapped up nice and pretty, not for her birthday, not for their anniversary, and certainly not for Christmas!  (In Charles' defense, we have found this situation to be not all that uncommon within his cultural background.)  For a long time, Selina had cherished a not-so-secret desire to receive such a gift…

That is why this Christmas morning Selina was probably the happiest woman in all of Vancouver.  Charles had not only surprised her with a large, beautifully wrapped gift under the tree, but inside was a brand-new laptop (which she really wanted)!  When Charles finally did catch on to the joy of giving, he caught on in a big way!  I saw him a few days before he sprung his big surprise, and he was as giddy as a mischievous schoolboy.  The Bible commands men to love their wives, but who knew that doing it could be so much fun?  Personally, I think Charles is hooked.  Watch out for Valentine’s Day and your birthday, Selina!  There’s a new man in town…

Yes, it may seem like a small matter to some, but sometimes small things indicate important changes are taking place.  God can use such changes when they become real in us.  I pointed out to Charles that he was not only giving a gift to Selina, but also to his sons, in the form of an example of how to meet a woman’s needs.  He doesn’t realize it yet, but he is also becoming a role model that can affect other men with his same cultural background.  There are countless other lives and marriages in this city, just like theirs, that need to be saved.
